"The title of this recording, Functional Arrhythmias, refers to paths of modulating heartbeat-like rhythmic melodies that function similar to the contrapuntal firing of nerve impulses, where communication is occurring in simultaneous but related layers. I have always been fascinated with time-related themes, and this is my attempt at creating a musical analogy of the interactions between the circulatory, nervous, respiratory, and other biological systems of the human body..."

Steve began playing music at the age of 14 on the south side of Chicago.The alto saxophonist studied music and technique for three years. He then decided that he wanted to learn how to improvise and was influenced by the music of Charlie Parker. At Roosevelt University, he concentrated on Chicago’s musical nightlife.
